There aren't many ladies with natural hair in our British Soaps, so I definitely noticed Natalie Gumede when she first joined my favourite, Coronation Street, as Tyrone's girlfriend Kirsty.
(Has anyone else noticed that there are also a lot more black background artists in Corrie, than there used to be?)
It seems Natalie and her on screen character have made quite a big impact, and last weekend she won "Villain of the Year" and "Best Dramatic Performance" at the National Soap Awards, as well as taking to the stage with Co-Stars Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine to collect the award for Best Storyline.
Natalie looked gorgeous in a floral print Alexander McQueen mini-dress, and wearing her fabulous curls loosely drawn to one side.
Soaps are definitely my guilty pleasure and I usually indulge by catching up on the iPlayer during my late night hair sessions. In my opinion Coronation Street has been wiping the floor with Eastenders for a while. Im so glad it was finally recognised at this years Soap Awards...
Corrie: 8 v.s Enders: 1
Congratulations to Natalie!
It would be so great to see more women with natural hair in Soaps, but I don't know how likely that is to happen. What do you think?
